Manager's Effort Level and Corporate Investment and Financing Policies under Heterogeneous Beliefs
Niu Weining, Liu Shancun, Yu Mei
    2017, 29 (6):  3-12.
    Abstract ( 248 )   PDF (1206KB) ( 524 )

The paper builds a framework to analyze the relationship between the investment and financing policies of a company and the level of efforts made by the company's manager when heterogeneous beliefs exist in the company. It concludes that when heterogeneous beliefs exist between the manager and outside investors and also among outside investors,if optimistic outside investors hold a larger proportion of stakes, then the more optimistic they are and the more heterogeneous their beliefs are,the lower level of effort the manager will make and the smaller investment will be made;in contrast,if pessimistic outside investors hold a larger proportion of stakes, then the more pessimistic they are and the more heterogeneous their beliefs are,the higher level of effort the manager will make and the larger investment will be made.Equity financing can bring more wealth to the manager, but higher level of effort is required.Numerical simulation results confirm the theoretical findings. The research implications provide important reference for manager to make reasonable financial policies and for investors to make scientific investment decisions.

Impacts of Transaction Costs on Cost Saving Effect of Carbon Trading Market in China
Cui Lianbiao, Duan Hongbo, Xu Jinhua
    2017, 29 (6):  23-31.
    Abstract ( 263 )   PDF (348KB) ( 614 )

Transaction costs play a significant role in cost saving of carbon trading market. In this paper,we develop an inter-provincial carbon-trading model to theoretically examine the relationships between transaction costs and equilibrium carbon price and trading volumes, and empirically analyzing the impacts of transaction costs on cost-effectiveness of China's carbon trading market. We find a positive relationship between equilibrium carbon price and transaction costs, and a negative relationship between transaction costs and trading volumes.Specifically, increase of the transaction cost by each unit leads the equilibrium price to increase by 0.57 Yuan and the trading volume to decrease by 0.31 million tons.Besides, the rising of transaction costs heavily restrains the trading initiative of market agents, then weakens the cost-effectiveness of permits trading market. As the transaction cost increases,Tianjin and Shanghai would be the first two agents staying out of the trading market;if the marginal transaction cost crosses the threshold of 70 Yuan per ton of CO2,the trading market will be in failure. This paper emphasizes the importance of transaction costs in mechanism design of carbon trading market, and indicates the policy makers should pay attention to the transaction costs for establishing the national united carbon trading market in the future.

Analysis of the Impact of Supply-side Reform on Coal Industry Bonds Investment
    Lin Wenda
    2017, 29 (6):  53-60.
    Abstract ( 164 )   PDF (1398KB) ( 403 )

The supply-side reform,as an important national policy of China to cross the middle income trap in the new normal economy, changes the analysis logic of the bond market, especially in the coal industry. The excess capacity of China's coal industry in 2013,2014 and 2015 are 1.466 billion tons,1.449 billion tons and 2.500 billion tons respectively, with 2015 at a record high.By analyzing the factors that affect the coal industry spreads,we identify the specific impact of the supply-side reform on the coal industry bonds. The change in coal industry bonds investment logics occurred in September 2015.Before the supply-side reform, bond investors'investment logic was “on the market”,focusing on market risk and ignoring industry risks. After the supply-side reform, investors began to pay attention to industry analysis. The decrease of the coal prices and coal-industrial added values led to a significant increase in coal industry spreads. The supply-side reform requires investors to face up to the problems of excess capacity and high leverage ratios in excess capacity industries, rather than hide the risk.Investors should pay attention to industry risks and decrease the bond investment in the excess capacity industries to promote the structural transformation of the economy. The governments at each level should gradually break the implied guarantees of state-owned enterprises'bonds, and correctly deal with the relationship between the government and the market.

    2017, 29 (6):  61-72.
    Abstract ( 215 )   PDF (1090KB) ( 442 )

Entrepreneurial network performance plays an important role for start-up financing. For new ventures, financing performance is more indicative of business development and investment. However, little literature empirically analyzes entrepreneurs network and new venture financing performance. This paper uses the samples of new ventures in Shaanxi province to research the direct relationship between entrepreneurial network and performance of corporate finance. And this paper also researches the mediating effect of effectuation and the adjustment effect of environmental dynamics. The empirical results show that while entrepreneurial network size and entrepreneurial network strength have a positive effect to the financing performance of the new enterprises;effectuation (besides its four dimensions, contain experiment, affordable loss, flexibility and pre-commitments) cohesion positively mediates the positive relationship between entrepreneurial network and the financing performance of the new enterprises;environmental dynamics negatively moderates the relationship between experiment, affordable loss,pre-commitments and new enterprises financing performance. This research makes up for the lack of empirical test in previous researches, and provides certain theory reference for start-up financing and investment institutions'investment decision.

    Chen Heng, Hou Jian
    2017, 29 (6):  85-95.
    Abstract ( 267 )   PDF (690KB) ( 815 )

Drawing upon the 2002-2013 Panel Data at the province-level in China and considering the influence of R&D input and FDI inflows, this paper uses nonlinear panel threshold regression to introduce the nonlinear threshold nature of intellectual property protection into the model and explores the mechanism between regional R&D input and FDI inflows and the domestic innovation capability. The research shows that the impact of regional R&D input on innovation capability is not limited to simple linear relationship or U-shaped and inverted U-shaped framework, but also have the complex nonlinear feature of the three thresholds of intellectual property protection;Secondly, the impact of regional FDI inflows on innovation capability is still limited by the regional intellectual property protection:as the intensity of intellectual property protection increases, the impact of FDI inflows on the innovation ability gradually weakens, reflecting a typical threshold effect. On the whole, the threshold effect of regional heterogeneity is obvious,so efforts should be made to enhance the IPR protection in the R&D-intensive areas and suppress the IPR protection in the areas targeted by FDIs.

    2017, 29 (6):  96-105.
    Abstract ( 224 )   PDF (1103KB) ( 529 )

This paper focuses on the influence of entrepreneurs' previous failure experience and their post-failure reaction to learning from failure. The research objects are those micro business owners who have experienced business failures. We have a total of 147 valid questionnaires. The empirical results show that different failure experience will lead to different degree of reaction to failure and learning from failure.Too much or too little failures are not good for learning from failure.Modest failure is the best condition for learning. The number of entrepreneurs' previous failure (s) will be positively associated with their internal attribution of failure. The extent of entrepreneurs' previous failure (s) will be negatively associated with their internal attribution of failure. The attribution of failure will affect the effectiveness of learning process. The relationship between them is moderated by the number of failures.Specifically, ventures by entrepreneurs who have experienced a small number of failures, will learn much more with higher levels of internal attribution;ventures by entrepreneurs who have experienced a large number of failures, will learn much less with higher levels of internal attribution.

Zhang Yueyan, Li Xianjun, Meng Xiangying, Wei Xianhua
    2017, 29 (6):  106-117.
    Abstract ( 199 )   PDF (1427KB) ( 479 )

The automobile industry in China is faced with a new competing environment, thus requiring carmakers to enhance innovation by optimizing their manufacturing process and upgrading their industry system. The innovation capability of a carmaker empirically depends on the strategic decision from its executives and the compensation system for executives should reflect the risk corresponding to their innovation activities. In this paper,we use 10-year financial data sample from 2004 to 2014 to investigate the relationship between the executive compensation and innovation ability by constructing innovation capacity indicators.By using SEM model,we conclude that low compensation decreases the innovation capability and this constraining effect is sustainable for at least two years.Experienced and well-educated executives contribute more to the innovation ability accumulation.

    2017, 29 (6):  165-176.
    Abstract ( 175 )   PDF (1129KB) ( 357 )

User innovation has been recognized as one of the key issues in enterprise IS management. However, little researches have been done to empirically examine the relationship between user innovation and IS performance and to theorize how to better manage user innovation. This paper aims to build one of the earliest models of how user innovation can affect IS performance.IS performance can be learned from different levels.Based on the job performance theory, from the department-level perspective, this paper proposes a multilevel model which shows that key user innovation will affect department IS performance, and that top management support and communication between business department and IT department will moderate the relationship between key user innovation and department IS performance. The proposed multilevel model is empirically examined using HLM with a survey of 269 key users in 35 enterprises. The results show that key user innovation will influence department IS performance, and that communication will moderate the relationship between key user innovation and department IS performance, while top management support will not moderate the relationship between key user innovation and department IS performance.Implications of the results are discussed. This paper proposes one of the earliest models about the relationship between key user innovation and department IS performance.Future research may integrate the constructs from other theories to propose a more comprehensive model about the antecedents of department IS performance, pay more attention to the antecedents and the outcome of IS user innovation at different level, and pay more attention to the cross-level interaction analysis in the IS research field.

The Effect of Regulatory Mode on the Likelihood to Buy a Less Attractive Offering after Missing an Initial Attractive One
Xu Lan, Zhao Shuangshuang, Cui Nan, Xie Wenting, Lu Kaili
    2017, 29 (6):  177-188.
    Abstract ( 207 )   PDF (1171KB) ( 416 )

Previous researches indicate that individuals are inclined to forgo a less attractive opportunity after missing an initial attractive one. However, some researchers proposed the opposite opinion that individuals have motivations to take actions when encountering the subsequent opportunity. In this paper,we confirm that it is possible for some kind of people to take actions even when they have missed the first attractive opportunity.Based on the literature regarding regulatory mode,we proposed that people with different regulatory modes vary in revaluating the product when missing the first attractive opportunity, which influences the likelihood to take the second less attractive opportunity.Specifically, individuals with high locomotion mode are more likely to take actions than individuals with high assessment mode when a less attractive opportunity is presented again after the first attractive one is missed.Furthermore, revaluation of the product mediates the effect of regulatory mode on the likelihood to buy. After missing the initial opportunity, individuals with high locomotion mode tend to anchor the initial price, while individuals with high assessment mode tend to anchor the most attractive price in the first opportunity. This leads individuals with high locomotion mode to revaluate the product at a higher value than those with high assessment mode.We test the hypotheses through two experiments. The results of Experiment 1 show that individuals ranked high in locomotion mode revaluate the product at a higher value and tend to be more likely to buy in the second opportunity than those ranked high in assessment mode.We examined the moderating effect of time interval in Experiment 2.When the initial opportunity is missed just a moment before rather than for a long time, individuals ranked high in locomotion mode are more likely to revaluate the product at a higher value than those ranked high in assessment mode and thus are more likely to buy when facing a less attractive opportunity.

A Study on Phantom Decoy Effects of Consumer Decision-making Context Cue——Based on Priming Strategy Model in Double Attribute Space
Li Dongjin, Zheng Jun, Jin Huizhen, Zhang Chubing
    2017, 29 (6):  189-201.
    Abstract ( 335 )   PDF (1309KB) ( 941 )

With the rising of phantom marketing in Chinese market, such as hunger marketing, group purchase,sec-killing and so on,the marketing strategies that present an unavailable phantom decoy in choice set to make an available option more attractive and cause the consumer preference reversal are being widely applied. However, the theory and practice of phantom decoy effects,as an important theoretical branch of attraction effects, has not been fully developed.Based on the theoretical framework of attraction effects, this paper proposes PAD and PND decoy areas and its priming models. For the first time it proposes two types of PND priming strategies:PC and PI.Furthermore,it designs an experiment of consumer decision-making based on Chinese consumer decision-making context cue using the famous psychology experiment software named as E-prime.The results show that in the gambling model of attraction effects in double attribute space, corresponding to real effects, there exists PAD and PND decoy areas and its priming models, hence being of great significance for theoretical applications in the future research.

Research on the Mechanism of How Self-efficacy and Resistance to Persuasion Influence Customers'Acceptance of Social Commerce Model
Liu Xinmin, Li Fang, Wang Song
    2017, 29 (6):  202-213.
    Abstract ( 263 )   PDF (1219KB) ( 911 )

From the perspective of consumers' psychological expectation and cognitive capability,we construct a concept model of cognition-expectation-intention from perceived value to acceptance intention to explore the influencing mechanism of self-efficacy and resistance to persuasion on promoting the acceptance intention to social commerce model. Then, the conceptual model and hypothesis are analyzed by structural equation through questionnaires.Empirical results show that perceived value to social commerce model could affect consumer's acceptance intention through the mediating roles of self-efficacy and resistance to persuasion in which the former's positive influence is slightly larger than the latter's negative influence.Perceived value and self-efficacy in the new model have a strong negative effect on the resistance to persuasion, but the three dimensions of perceived value play different roles. As a prepositive variable, general self-efficacy has a significant positive effect on the perceived value and self-efficacy in social commerce environment. The analysis of mechanism from consumer perceived value to the final acceptance intention is helpful to deepen the understanding of consumer's cognitive behavior, which can provide a useful reference for the improvement of the Social-Commerce.

Transport Infrastructure and Agglomeration Effects of Service Industries:From HLM Analysis on the Two Levels of Provinces and Cities
Sun Xiaohua, Liu Xiaoling, Xu Shuai
    2017, 29 (6):  214-224.
    Abstract ( 213 )   PDF (1069KB) ( 397 )

Agglomeration of service industries is one important way to improve the industrial quality and the regional competitiveness.A key step for regional economic development is to explore how to promote the agglomeration effects of service industries.By incorporating transport costs into the theory model of the relationship between industrial agglomeration and productivity, the paper discusses the mechanism of how traffic infrastructure affects service agglomeration. In the empirical study, the samples of provinces in China are divided into a high level group and a low level group in terms of traffic infrastructure based on the panel threshold model. Then, the effects of transport infrastructure on agglomeration of service industries are tested by hierarchical linear model. The results show that in the provinces where transportation infrastructure is developed, the agglomeration of service industries at the provincial level can strengthen the urban agglomeration effects. While in the provinces where transportation infrastructure is underdeveloped, the effective range of the agglomeration of service industries is only limited to the municipal level, and the provincial service agglomeration can not improve the agglomeration effects of urban service industries.

On the Willingness of Car-travel Reduction in Sustainable Transport:An Integrated Model
    Liu Yuwei
    2017, 29 (6):  234-241.
    Abstract ( 222 )   PDF (1018KB) ( 383 )

Car-travel reduction should be included in the study of sustainable urban transport, because many cities in China are facing increasingly serious environmental problems due to a substantially continuous increase of car transport. In order to explore the antecedents of willingness of car-travel reduction, based on Norm Activation Model (NAM) and Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB),an integrated model of the willingness of car-travel reduction is proposed, and research hypotheses are proposed, combining normative and rational factors. Then dataset obtained from a survey of 600 drivers are used to verify the reliability and validity of the model and to test research hypotheses. The result indicates such three variables as personal norm of car-travel reduction, attitudes towards reduction and perceived behavior control of reduction significantly affect the willingness of car-travel reduction, and personal norm is a mediator in the relationship between awareness of consequence, ascription of responsibility of car-travel,subjective norms of car-travel reduction and the willingness of car-travel reduction. This finding provides a theoretical reference for relevant decision-makers of urban transport management.

    2017, 29 (6):  242-251.
    Abstract ( 200 )   PDF (1464KB) ( 439 )

On the basis of the conflict management and the systems thinking theories, this study constructs an analysis framework of urbanization group conflict from the perspective of system dynamics.By combining with the features of urbanization group conflict, the causal relations are analyzed from three points:the government factor, the public factor, and other factors. Then, the factor system of urbanization group conflict is proposed, based on which we construct the system flow diagrams and the dynamics simulation model of urbanization group conflict.By fitting the different influence factors of urbanization group conflict,we further analyze the actual effect of the influence factors in the group conflict dynamic system.Additionally,we utilize the Vensim PLE software to simulate the proposed model. An empirical example is used to illustrate the effective and practicality of the proposed model. The results show that:the effects from other factors and the public factor on the urbanization group conflict are weaker than the governmental factor.Lastly, some resolution mechanisms are provided to solve the urbanization group conflict event in China.

The Relationship among External Environment,Business Model and Performance of Banks——Based on the Data of 16 Listed Commercial Banks in China
Qiao Han, Zhang Jing, Guo Sheng, Ji Shangbo, Liu Bing
    2017, 29 (6):  252-263.
    Abstract ( 241 )   PDF (1208KB) ( 567 )

Based on the iceberg theory of business model and 7E-model to bank's business model, this paper conducts an empirical study with the structural equation model on the relationship between business model, external environment and performance of the 16 listed Chinese commercial banks.Besides, this paper also conducts an empirical comparative analysis according to banks'nature. The results show that, business model has a negative impact on the bank's short-term performance, while a positive impact on the bank's long-term performance.External environment has a significant impact on ban k's business model and a positive impact on the bank's short-term performance. This is because the improvement of business model will hit the original model first which will lead to the degradation of bank's performance. In the long run, banks will gradually adapt to the changes of external environment and become stable, the good match of business model and external environment will generally improve bank's performance. In addition, when distinguishing the proprietary nature of banks in the above structural equation model, the results differ again. In the end, according to those empirical results,we put forward some suggestions on bank's business model.
