Abstract:

Based on the iceberg theory of business model and 7E-model to bank's business model, this paper conducts an empirical study with the structural equation model on the relationship between business model, external environment and performance of the 16 listed Chinese commercial banks.Besides, this paper also conducts an empirical comparative analysis according to banks'nature. The results show that, business model has a negative impact on the bank's short-term performance, while a positive impact on the bank's long-term performance.External environment has a significant impact on ban k's business model and a positive impact on the bank's short-term performance. This is because the improvement of business model will hit the original model first which will lead to the degradation of bank's performance. In the long run, banks will gradually adapt to the changes of external environment and become stable, the good match of business model and external environment will generally improve bank's performance. In addition, when distinguishing the proprietary nature of banks in the above structural equation model, the results differ again. In the end, according to those empirical results,we put forward some suggestions on bank's business model.
