Impacts of Cross-border Capital Flow on Banks' Soundness: Empirical Research Based on Top 10 Banks in China
    Yang Haizhen, Huang Qiubin
    2015, 27 (10):  9-18.
    Abstract ( 306 )   PDF (1198KB) ( 1392 )

The paper concludes the influence and mechanism of cross-border capital flows on banks' soundness at first and then measures the soundness of top 10 banks in China based on data from 2006Q1 to 2014Q1. The results show that the soundness increases gradually during 2006 to 2012, and decreases during 2013 to the first quarter of 2014. Furthermore, we investigate the influence of cross-border capital flows on banks' soundness based on panel data model. We find that the rise of cross-border capital net flow significantly decreases the degree of top ten banks' soundness. We distinguish different kinds of capital flows and find that neither direct investment nor portfolio investment could impair banks' soundness. However, the net flow of other investment exerts significantly a negative effect on top ten banks' soundness.

Do the Differences of Auditor' Organizational Form and Transformation Affect Audit Fees?
Wang Xiao, Gao Jie, Lu Qiang
    2015, 27 (10):  19-32.
    Abstract ( 240 )   PDF (1189KB) ( 866 )

Many audit firms have transformed from limited liability into special general partnership after 2010 when the government promulgated the Interim Provisions on Driving Large and Medium-sized Audit firms to Transform into Special General Partnership Organizational Form. Will the difference of auditors' organization form and transformation affect audit risk or audit fees? It is a significant topic in both academic and practical researches. This study finds that the audit fees charged by partnership CPA firms are higher than those charged by limited liability CPA firms after controlling for the characteristics of CPA firms and their clients, as well as correcting for the selection bias. Further investigation demonstrates that the fee premium charged by partnership CPA firms becomes higher for firms in financial distress so that to compensate for higher potential risk in auditing. In addition, we find that audit firms charge higher audit fees after their organizational form is transformed from limited liability to special general partnership following the regulation issued by China's Treasury in 2010 which encourages the transformation, but there is no evidence that the transformation helps improve the audit quality.

Weather Derivatives Basis Risk Quantifying and Hedging Effect
Li Yong, Ma Yu, Cui Xigang
    2015, 27 (10):  33-43.
    Abstract ( 279 )   PDF (2795KB) ( 989 )

Weather derivatives have achieved remarkable effects in hedging weather risks in foreign countries, but its inner geographical basis risk reduces the degree of market acceptance. We decrease the geographical basis risk of weather derivatives by increasing the space diversity, on the basis of quantifying the geographical basis risk. To minimize the geographical basis risk, we need to know the joint distribution of rainfall in different regions, so we estimate the randomly generated model of rainfall to get the weight of optimal geographic combination. The study shows that, compared with the traditional historical data simulation method and inverse distance weighting method, this new method can be more effective in reducing the geographical basis risk of weather derivatives, and it can copy the revenue of weather-sensitive companies under general weather risks, so it is helpful to improve the enthusiasm enterprises to purchase weather derivatives.

    Xiao Ting
    2015, 27 (10):  44-53.
    Abstract ( 204 )   PDF (1236KB) ( 819 )

The paper uses Malmquist index to measure the developing level of China's eight service sub-industries' TFP in 1994-2011 and studies the effect of productivity changes on the income changes of state-owned and non-state-owned enterprises in the sub-industries. The results show that total factor productivity (TFP) change is positively related to the two kinds of enterprises' income change, but in state-owned enterprises, the TFP-wage elasticity coefficient is more remarkable. From the perspective of sub-industries, the TFP change of state-owned property right enterprises in the productive service industry has a bigger influence on staff salary change, but in the wholesale & retail, catering and real estate industries, TFP has more obvious effects on the non-state-owned enterprise wages. In addition, the market competition, the per capita investment in fixed assets, the maturity of the market and region economic development level have certain differences in the level of wage change impact in two kinds of property right enterprises.

Evaluation of the Value Added from Old Building Renovation: A Real Option Approach
Yu Xiaofen, Zhang Lihua, Fan Jianshuang
    2015, 27 (10):  54-59,107.
    Abstract ( 219 )   PDF (1594KB) ( 839 )

In order to promote the supply of affordable housing, China's central governmentattaches great importance to the renovation of shantytowns. Most shantytowns lack reliable sanitation services, public transportation, complete infrastructure, timely law enforcement and other basic services, while the buildings there are mostly dilapidated buildings with poor-quality. Therefore they are unfit for human habitation, and the renovation is imperative. The heavy renovation workload across the country and the capital shortage, however, become a common obstacle of local governments in their efforts to launch renovation projects. This paper applies the real option analysis approach to estimate the value added from old building renovation, and presents an explicit numerical method of the trinomial tree real option pricing model. Finally, the case of "Wu Liu Xiang" in Hangzhou is selected for an empirical analysis. We introduce the new comprehensive renovation mode of "preservation as the main measure, incorporating reconstruction and modification" which replaces the traditional "old city reconstruction" mode which is building new after pulling down the old ones, and encourage the residents to bear a part of the retrofitting costs, which will improve the residents' living conditions, and facilitate social equity as well.

Environment Uncertainty and Firm Technological Innovation: Evidence from Chinese Listed Firms
Yuan Jianguo, Cheng Chen, Hou Qingsong
    2015, 27 (10):  60-69.
    Abstract ( 312 )   PDF (1127KB) ( 1357 )

In this paper, we examine the relationship between environment uncertainty and technological innovation based on the sample of Chinese (non-financial) listed companies during the period 2005-2011. The results suggest that, the relationship between environment uncertainty and technological innovation can be seen as an inverted U shape. Further study shows the nature of the property rights, firm size and profitability have significant influences on the inverted-U shaped relationship: When the level of environment uncertainty is given, the non-state-owned enterprises tend to be more innovative than SOEs, firms with a larger size should enhance technological innovation motivations, and higher profitability can be beneficial for firm innovation. The paper deepens the knowledge about the relationship between environment uncertainty and technological innovation, provides robust evidence for the interpretation of the relationship, and it is also quite instructive for the government to improve the technological innovation environment and relevant policy.

The Timeliness and Definiteness of Managers' Reply in the Network Interactive Platform Based Communication and Investors' Investment Decisions——An Experimental Evidence
    Zhang Jixun, Han Dongmei
    2015, 27 (10):  70-83.
    Abstract ( 269 )   PDF (1652KB) ( 1102 )

From the perspectives of psychology and behavior, this paper investigates how the timeliness and definiteness of managers' reply impact investors' investment decisions on the network interactive platform by employing an experimental method. We find that investors are more likely to invest in a company when its management answer investors' questions timely than when its management delay in answering; and that investors are more likely to invest in a company when its management reply to investors definitely than when its management reply vaguely. Meanwhile, we find the effect of timeliness on investment likelihood is moderated by definiteness of managers' reply. In addition, we also find the specific path where investors' investment decisions are influenced by the timeliness and definiteness of managers' reply.

Information Cascades——An Experimental Research of Sequential Decision-Making Behavior Matching
Li Jianbiao, Wang Pengcheng, Ju Long
    2015, 27 (10):  84-94.
    Abstract ( 258 )   PDF (1162KB) ( 1237 )

Using the behavioral analysis approach and the experimental method, this paper researches the information cascades and behavior matching of sequential decision-making, and divides sequential decision-making behaviors into three classes: Bayes rule decision, non-Bayes rule decision and balance. And then, we design specific experiments which include four treatments such as different subjects' types, symmetry and asymmetry urns. Results show that symmetry & asymmetry urns and decision order have significant effect on behavior pattern and efficiency, while subject's types, cumulative profit or loss do not. What's more, subjects prefer to make decision based on their private signals under balance condition because of endowment effect and ambiguity aversion. In this paper, we analyze sequential decision-making behaviors comprehensively and separate information cascades from them to find out the mechanism, characteristic and efficiency of information cascades. It has important theoretical and practical significance for understanding phenomena such as the bank run, the network group events and financial crisis.

Yang Yong, Ma Qinhai, Zhang Junxiu, He Chunhui
    2015, 27 (10):  95-107.
    Abstract ( 366 )   PDF (1622KB) ( 1481 )

We focus on China culture context and integrate three emotional labor perspectives, i.e., inner states perspective (emotional dissonance, emotional fit), psychological processing perspective (surface acting, deep acting) and behavioral expression perspective (faked emotion expression, suppressed emotion expression and genuine emotion expression). Then we discuss the relationship among the three perspectives, and whether they have effect on customer value co-creation behavior via customer loyalty intention. Through 321 customer samples' investigation and data analysis, Our research results show that: besides the hypothesis of deep acting and emotional dissonance, the emotional dissonance of service employee causes surface acting, which in turn promotes faked emotion expression and suppressed emotion expression; the emotional fit of service employee has direct effect on genuine emotion expression; among three emotional expression of service employee, faked emotion expression and suppressed emotion expression promote customer value co-creation behavior via customer loyalty intension.

The Relationships between Employees' Perceived Corporate Social Responsibility, Affective Commitment and Organizational Citizenship Behavior: A Cross-level Analysis of Commitment-based Human Resource Management Practices
    Liu Yuan, Zhou Zucheng
    2015, 27 (10):  118-127.
    Abstract ( 485 )   PDF (1220KB) ( 2558 )

Based on 592 employees' questionnaires in 32 firms, this research uses hierarchical linear modeling to analyze these statistical data, investigates the mechanism by which employees' CSR perceptions affect organizational citizenship behavior, the mediating role of affective commitment and the moderating role of commitment-based human resource management practices. The results show that: (1) affective commitment mediates the relationship between employees' CSR perceptions and organizational citizenship behavior. (2) Commitment-based human resource management practices have a direct positive effect on affective commitment, but a negative cross-level moderating effect on the relationship between CSR and affective commitment. It means that the higher level of commitment-based human resource management practices, the less significant the correlation between employee CSR perceptions and affective commitment would be. The research conclusion enriches the theory of corporate social responsibility, and provides beneficial practical implications for the human resources management practice in firms.

    Liu Xiaoyuan, Lin Song
    2015, 27 (10):  138-149.
    Abstract ( 283 )   PDF (1207KB) ( 1081 )

Based on the practice of the rapid development of entrepreneurial activities and their non-equilibrium distribution in China, this study applies the social network perspective to establish the theoretical relationship among social context, occupational status and entrepreneurial intentions for social individuals, and uses the sample of 471 individuals in Beijing to empirically study the effect of social context as well as occupational status on entrepreneurial intentions for social individuals. The results indicate that the family context and the quality of social networks are beneficial to improve the entrepreneurial intentions for social individuals, and the individuals with higher occupational status have lower entrepreneurial intentions. The study further shows that occupational status moderates the relationship between social context and entrepreneurial intentions for social individuals. This study has built the "bridge" to establish the linkage between social individuals and entrepreneurial environment, and also has provided the applications for government to make entrepreneurship-supporting policies.

Which Experience Is More Easily Absorbed: An Empirical Study of Experience Learning Outcomes of Mergers and Acquisitions
    Wang Wanqiu, Liu Lulin
    2015, 27 (10):  150-160.
    Abstract ( 244 )   PDF (1149KB) ( 1108 )

Whether mergers and acquisitions create value has attracted much research attention. How acquisition experience learning affects value creation has been an important research area in this field. This study is based on the absorption of organizational learning theory and failure learning theory. By studying Chinese listed companies'merger and acquisition activities that occurred between 1998 and 2012, we aim to find out what affects experiential learning outcomes of mergers and acquisitions. The results show that learning outcomes first go down and then up with the increscent of mergers and acquisitions experiences, capital markets hold positive attitude toward long time acquisition experience learning, and acquirers get acquisition experience more easily from previous failure than from success to achieve positive learning outcomes. The main contribution of this study is the development of the law of acquisition experiential learning from two aspects; one is how experience learning duration affects learning outcomes and the other is the different learning outcomes of success experience learning and failure experience learning.

Panorama of China's MBA Programs under the Background of Education Reform: Based on the Co-plot Method
Liu Linqing, Zhang Ting, Han Feiying
    2015, 27 (10):  161-172.
    Abstract ( 161 )   PDF (1280KB) ( 1097 )

Since 1991 when the first 9 universities were approved by Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council to enroll MBA students, more and more universities have been approved to do so, and more recently some universities were approved to launch comprehensive reform pilot work of postgraduates education. This is a rapid but relative slow development process of China's MBA programs. The credit crisis confronting global business education especially after the financial crisis gives rise to the question of what strategy China's local MBA education should follow in the situation where China is reforming its education system by diversifying away from the unified curriculum provision. This paper draws upon 26 pilot MBA colleges of the first two batches and uses Co-plot method to build a strategic group panorama of four university groups and five course groups, with variables being required courses, course selection areas and specialty programs of China's MBA schools. By comparing the differences in their MBA program system to find the characteristics of each school, we aim to explore the direction of China's MBA curriculum system reform. Also by comparing with American MBA programs, we hope to provide some directions and suggestions for the localization and internationalization of China's MBA programs innovation.

Effects of Supply Chain Disruption on Stock Prices of the Automobile Industry
Shu Tong, Yang Fang, Chen Shou, Wang Shouyang, Lai Kin, Gan Lu
    2015, 27 (10):  173-182.
    Abstract ( 233 )   PDF (1165KB) ( 840 )

This paper uses event study to explore Japan's and China's auto industry stock price fluctuations resulting from the 3.11earthquake in Japan. Stock price effects are estimated by computing the abnormal stock returns around the date when the earthquake occurred. Regression analysis is used to identify factors that influence the stock market's reaction to the earthquake. The empirical results show that: The supply chain disruption caused by the earthquake is a significant negative impact on stock prices, and the effect in China is different from that in Japan. The current ratio is not a significant effect on this event, but the enterprises with higher inventory ratio and grass margin ratio can relief the negative impact of the earthquake.

Optimal Decisions of Remanufacturing Closed-loop Supply Chain Based on the Government Fund
    Li Xinran, Chen Rong
    2015, 27 (10):  183-194.
    Abstract ( 224 )   PDF (1182KB) ( 847 )

Aimed at remanufacturing closed-loop supply chain (CLSC) consisting of a single manufacture, remanufacturer and retailer based on the government fund, this paper constructs decentralized decision making CLSC models with or without the government fund, respectively, and discusses the impact of the environmental tax as well as recycling subsidies on the decision and profits of the CLSC models. The research shows that with the government fund, the market demand for remanufactured product, the amount of waste products recycled, and the remanufacturer's profit, all of them will be on the increase. Thus, the government fund policy can achieve the goal of promoting the waste product remanufacturing effectively. The market demand for new product and the manufacture's profit both decrease, guiding manufacturers participate in the process of recycling and remanufacturing. The rise or fall in product price, and the variation of profits in supply chain system or on retail, are related to the relative ratio between environmental tax and recycling subsidies. That is, the government can regulate the interests of customers, supply chain system and retailers by setting a reasonable ratio. Conclusions above are proved by the numerical analysis.

Research on Inventory Model of Airport Emergency Supplies with Random Occurrence Time——Based on a Single Emergency Preparedness Phase for Medical Supplies
Pan Wei, Guo Ying, Liu Shan, Liao Shujie
    2015, 27 (10):  195-203.
    Abstract ( 251 )   PDF (1191KB) ( 863 )

High incidence of civil aviation accident near the airport highlights the importance of the medical emergency supplies and equipments stored in airports. The medical emergency supplies and equipments always have short life cycle and require high quality. This paper establishes an inventory model of medical supplies and equipments in the emergency preparation phase. The model takes the uncertainty of demand and aviation accident occurrence time into account, and deduces relationships between risk neutral and risk-averse attitudes with the stochastic occurrence time and determinate occurrence time. It concludes that the optimal inventory level of medical supplies is not only related to the shelf life, but also related to the distribution of random demand and occurrence time; it also concludes that the effect of stochastic occurrence time on the optimal decision is different between different risk criterions. By using the probability density function, this paper verifies that decision under the rule of risk aversion is the result of balance between risks and costs.

Research on Clustering Structure, Betweenness and Anti-risk Capacity of Innovation Network of Cluster——A Case on Industrial Cluster of New Energy Vehicles in the Northeast China
Chen Wei, Zhou Wen, Lang Yifu
    2015, 27 (10):  204-217.
    Abstract ( 201 )   PDF (3080KB) ( 1148 )

Network risks damage the structure and function of innovation network of cluster and thus influence the network's anti-risk capacity. To achieve the goal of effectively managing network risks, this paper uses the innovation network of the industrial cluster of new energy vehicles in the northeast China as a case, and simulates the influence from clustering structure, betweenness to the anti-risk capacity of network in the infectious process of the endogenous and exogenous risks, based on complex theory. Furthermore, this paper discusses the possible solution of improvement of the anti-risk capacity of network. Results prove that the endogenous risks have stronger destructive power than the exogenous risks. Under the impact of network risks, the clustering structure and betweenness dramatically influences the anti-risk capacity of the structure and function of the network with respect to the damage speed and intensity respectively, through the self-organization behavior of the network. The degree of variation of the clustering structure and betweenness and the degree of their consistency have impact on the anti-risk capacity of the network. To cultivate and support the cluster of medium-scale enterprises is the possible solution of improving the anti-risk capacity of network.

Chinese Context Structure and Mechanism: A Qualitative Research Based on Cases of Chinese Enterprises' Strategic Change
    Su Jingqin, Liu Chang
    2015, 27 (10):  218-229.
    Abstract ( 220 )   PDF (1548KB) ( 1024 )

Based on cases of Chinese enterprises' strategic change, this paper uses grounded theory to identify the context factors that Chinese enterprises embedded in, constructs the context structure and analyzes its function mechanism. The study shows that the context structure in which Chinese enterprises' managerial practices (including strategic change) embedding consists of three levels, namely external context (technology development, policy and contingencies), second-level context (market and industry context) and internal context (enterprise's context). Each level respectively affects enterprises' managerial practices in differential patterns. The study also finds that according to the characters of context structure, different enterprises' management modes are the results of its subjective and objective differences, and the dynamics of context structure leads to the staged progress of strategic decision making.

Governance Mechanisms in Service Outsourcing Relationship Based on Trust: A Multi-Case Study
Zhang Pei, Du Yaping, Ma Jianlong
    2015, 27 (10):  230-240.
    Abstract ( 226 )   PDF (1199KB) ( 1265 )

With the characteristics of trust in both time and dynamic taking into consideration, this paper investigates the effect of multidimensional trust on governance mechanisms and relationship quality in two types of service outsourcing context: first cooperation and non-first cooperation. It encodes and analyzes the data related to the surveyed enterprises by using content analysis and supported by QSR NVivo10. We find that trust presents dynamic evolution characteristics in the development of service outsourcing relationship. Cooperation experience and complexity of outsourcing project will impact the selection of governance mechanisms. With regard to the first cooperation, calculus-based trust enhances the implementation enforcement of the contract governance, to the non-first one, benevolence-based trust increases relational governance, and competence-based trust plays the fundamental role in the whole process. Relational governance helps to promote the relationship effectiveness under the mid and long-term outsourcing cooperation.
