A Survey and Comment on the Work of Angus Deaton——Nobel Prize Winner in Economic Sciences in 2015

Abstract:

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences decided to award the Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel for 2015 to British economist Angus Deaton for his distinguished analysis of consumption, poverty and welfare. In many areas of economics, including microeconomics, macroeconomics, development economics and microeconometrics, Deaton made outstanding contributions. His work is connecting theory and measurement, and linking micro and macro data by using relevant statistical methods, to do the researches related to human welfare. These studies not only have profound influence on the economic theory, but also have played a key role in actual policy making. This paper summarizes the academic contribution of Deaton, and proposes some research directions and problems worthy of attention.
